Captain Cramer von Baumgarten was a senior officer of the Dutch Marine Corps who participated in the 1875‑1876 Aceh expedition. He joined the assault on Adjoen alongside Lieutenant Cambier and later led a marine company during the advance on Lamhasan (see page 135, page 136).
Illness and Evacuation
Captain von Baumgarten fell ill and was evacuated from the field on 5 January 1876 to Kota Radja, and subsequently to Padang, where he boarded the steamship Kroesen for further evacuation (see page 136).
Military Actions
He coordinated the marine sections that supported artillery batteries and participated in the capture of several kampongs, including Pasoch and Lamhasan (see page 135).
Significance
His leadership exemplifies the role of marine officers in combined‑arms operations during the later phases of the Aceh War, integrating infantry, artillery, and native troops.
