Surinamese border detachment refers to a small unit of the Dutch colonial forces stationed on the Corantijn (Corinth) River frontier of the Surinam colony. During the Dutch December expedition in Acheh, a member of this detachment was captured at Beresteyn plantation by rebel forces, as recorded in the Journal of Haringman.
Significance
The capture demonstrates the interconnectedness of Dutch colonial holdings in the Caribbean and the East Indies, and the reach of rebel activity beyond the immediate theater of war.
