Soengei Lipoet Cultuur-Maatschappij was one of oldest and largest plantation companies in Temiang, founded 1908 with predominantly Belgian capital, owning rubber and oil-palm.
Operations
Plantation over 700 baoe oil palm besides 2800 baoe rubber situated at tram track not far Aroebaai, could consider self handling shipment with own small ship to Malaka and Java.
Palm oil preparation started 1919 half manual half mechanical gradually fully mechanical. Detailed process: weighing bridge, platforms sorting 1st 2nd 3rd sort, 24 hours processing, desinfection tank steam 6 atmospheres 5 minutes, stirring kettle grinding 15 min to pulp, hydraulic press, collection tank, pipes to centrifuge, organic separation, purification tank heated indirect steam 24 hours water dirt sink two taps, bleaching oxidation light brown tint, cooling 24 hours, pulp remaining with kernels through gutters tipping carts drying 6 hours hot air, rotating sieves separation pulp pits, pulp anew heated main pressure press 360 atmospheres remaining oil obtains second quality.

Uses barrels able contain 550 kg oil oak old wine barrels arriving France in staves thickness 3 cm. In shed staves to barrel iron bands press clamps. Leak disadvantage shipping not accept leaking barrels waste harmful. Sometimes 16 percent waste.
First sort oil suitable margarine manufacture better than coprah because melting point higher. Margarine oil can spread not soon liquid. First and second sort soap made. Sends oil to Marseille, Antwerpen, Rotterdam, Londen and Liverpool large markets, but soon itself soap preparation both perfumed and bar soap sell Indies Straits. Specialist summoned. Soap factory German invention automatic only 6 workers needed. Expects new factory Krupp higher percentage oil achieve.
Factory cost reported eight ton.
Significance for region
Importance Temiang agricultural industry. Soengei Lipoet only enterprise with factory to prepare palm oil. Without factory capital invested reasonable profit not obtain. But factory expensive experience not yet broad front. Many await experiences cautiously.
Lands permission agriculture, not erfpacht, no mortgage possible payment to landscape.
