Legioen Mangko Negoro was a colonial infantry legion attached to the Zuid‑colonne of the Koninklijk Nederlandsch-Indisch Leger during the Japanese invasion of the Dutch East Indies in 1942. Two companies of the legion were part of the forces marching from Djombang towards Tjepoe and later to Kertosono.
Role in the Zuid‑colonne
The legion, together with a fort‑company and a half‑squadron of cavalry (1/2 III esk cav.), formed a motorised contingent that advanced alongside the Marinebataljon. Its troops were tasked with securing bridges and maintaining lines of communication.
Significance
The Legioen Mangko Negoro illustrates the diversity of colonial forces mobilised by the Dutch in the defense of the archipelago, including operations affecting the Aceh region.
