Indische marechaussees were the colonial police and militia forces of the Netherlands in the Dutch East Indies. They frequently cooperated with the Dutch Marine Corps in joint exercises and in campaigns such as the 17 May 1817 landing on Saparoea and the 1821 expedition against Palembang (pages 92‑94).
Role in Aceh‑related Operations
The marechaussees provided local knowledge and infantry support to Dutch amphibious forces, facilitating the Dutch attempts to pacify the Aceh‑adjacent islands and coastal regions.
