The Economische Vereeniging te Koeta Radja (Economic Association at Koeta Radja) was the association founded in 1919 by the then agent of the Javasche Bank at that place, the heer J. Straatemeier, aiming to advance the trading interests of its members and generally to study all possible economic questions occurring in Atjeh and eventually to give advice about them to the Government and her officials.
Working
From its foundation the association served the economic interests of the whole province in no small measure. Every year a report appeared, in which in a business-like, succinct manner the particulars and figures of the several cultures and trading establishments in Atjeh were communicated. Beside this, in the beginning of 1920 the said chairman of the association composed a voluminous report for the service of the Atjeh Instituut at Amsterdam, in which the economic condition of the province was discussed into its details. Author Joh. Langhout mentions the association in the closing sentence of his chapter on the “steunpilaren der pacificatie” — the press, banks and trading houses sustaining the pacification (see Nieuwsblad voor Atjeh en Onderhoorigheden, Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij).
