The Assistent-Resident van Groot-Atjeh was the Netherlands-Indies administrative officer at the head of the afdeeling (district) Groot-Atjeh, and one of the two officials on whose reports the introduction of verjaring into Atjehnese customary law was founded.
Role in the prescription decree of 1911
The decree of 26 April 1911 No. 2199 recited, as its first ground, the missive of the Assistent Resident van Groot-Atjeh of 7 March 1911 No. 593/9, together with that of the Assistent Resident van de Noordkust of 29 March of the same year No. 606/9. These reports drew attention to the inconsistent treatment of old claims of debt by the moesapat’s of the gewest (region), prescription being applied quite arbitrarily.
