Volkstelling van 1930 (Aceh Census of 1930) (1930) was an event in the history of Aceh recorded by Jongejan in Land en Volk van Atjeh Vroeger en Nu. First census to cover all of Aceh.

Date and Context

The event is dated to 1930.

Account

First census to cover all of Aceh. Showed Atjeh is sparsely populated: in the most densely populated afdeeling Noordkust max 50 inhabitants/km²; vast Gajo- and Alaslanden are very sparsely populated or uninhabited. Average for the residency: just over 18/km². 97% indigenous. The ‘Voorloopige uitkomsten’ suggested 36% increase since 1920, but for Groot-Atjeh and Pidië no 1920 data exist, so this is only an estimate. Next census expected 1940.

Significance

The event is recorded by Jongejan as part of the broader historical narrative of Aceh and the Atjeh conflict period. It illustrates the complex interplay of local Atjehers politics, Dutch colonial administration, and the religious and military leadership that shaped the region’s history.
