Koninklijk Besluit of 26 July 1872 No. 63 (Royal Decree of 26 July 1872, No. 63) was the Dutch royal decree by which the cadet-sergeant Cornelis Jacobus Snijders — then still two months short of his twentieth birthday — was appointed Tweede Luitenant (Second Lieutenant) in the Korps Ingenieurs, Mineurs en Sappeurs and posted to the Eerste Stelling der Genie at Utrecht. The decree is the legal basis of Snijders’ commissioning and of his subsequent engineer career, which included his Atjeh service of 1874–1875 under KB of 10 June 1873 No. 33 and his decoration with the Ridderkruis der Militaire Willemsorde under KB of 12 November 1875 No. 18.
The Commissioning
By the decree of 26 July 26 July 1872 No. 63, the cadet-sergeant Snijders, who had passed the officers’ examination as No. 1 of his four-man rotatie of engineers on 14 July 14 July 1872 and had been awarded two honorary prizes at the KMA (a portrait of King Willem III for excellence in linear drawing, and a revolver for excellence in practical aptitude), was appointed Tweede Luitenant in the Korps Ingenieurs, Mineurs en Sappeurs and posted to the Eerste Stelling der Genie at Utrecht. He reported for duty on 10 August 10 August 1872 to the Kolonel-Ingenieur Jhr. J. F. van Thije Hannes, who administered the oath of office in his lodgings before a clerk on crutches as sole witness.
