The Acehnese tradition of invulnerability practices, whose ultimate immortal patron is believed to be the hikayat hero Malem Diwa. Practitioners sought protective marks, charms (ajeumat), and instruction from a guree (invulnerability teacher); notable adherents included Teuku Ne’ of Meura’sa, said to have absorbed mercury into his skin, and the would-be prophet Teungku Tapa, who claimed to be Malem Diwa returned to earth.
