Action against Kloenkoeng (1908) was a Dutch marine operation targeting the town of Kloenkoeng (modern Klungkung) on the island of Bali in 1908. The operation formed the concluding phase of the Dutch pacification of Bali and is listed in the corps’ chronology alongside the earlier Aceh campaigns.
A small force of the Dutch Marine Corps landed, seized the royal palace, and forced the surrender of the local ruler, completing Dutch domination of the island.
Significance
The action marked the end of organized Balinese resistance and allowed the Dutch colonial administration to focus resources on the remaining Aceh insurgency.
