Sultane (female sultan) (English: “female Sultan/Sultana”) is a term or concept described in Jongejan’s Land en Volk van Atjeh Vroeger en Nu in relation to Aceh. Female ruler of Atjeh.

Description
Female ruler of Atjeh. After Sultan Iskandar Moeda’s death, a successor’s brief reign was followed by a Sultana - and in the 17th century three more Sultanas ruled in succession. This was contradictory to the bruidsschat concept (a woman cannot be married to a woman), evidence of the post-Iskandar crisis.
Significance
The term Sultane (female sultan) is recorded by Jongejan as part of the cultural, administrative, or institutional vocabulary of Aceh.
