Padé kandoeri was the single naleh of padi which, in Atjeh, a defeated occupant holding land under the haq padjoh asoé had to deliver each year at harvest to the successful claimant, by way of recognition of the latter’s possessory right.
Function
The payment was expressly an act of acknowledgement rather than a rent: it marked the superior right of the proven possessor during the three years in which the losing party was allowed to continue working the ground and enjoying its produce. At the end of that term the land had to be placed at the disposal of the successful claimant without further ado.
