The Korte Verklaring (1899) — the Short Declaration of 1899 — was the short political declaration in three articles by which the colonial government in 1899 replaced the older Groote Verklaring in eighteen articles, and which the oeléebalangs of the Atjehnese landschappen were required to sign as the formal token of their submission to the Dutch government. By signing the Korte Verklaring, the oeléebalang acknowledged the suzerainty of the Dutch government and agreed to govern his landschap in accordance with the government’s instructions.
