The cochoornmortier — the Coehoorn mortar, a light mortar of Dutch design — was among the ordnance mounted in the bastions of the Dutch post of Lam Koenjit in Groot-Atjeh.

G. B. Hooijer recorded that on entering the gate of the outwork of Lam Koenjit, above which the name of the post was written, one had to turn left to enter the benteng itself, waarbinnen, in de bastions, twee 7½ c.m. veldstukken en een cochoornmortier waren opgesteld — within which, in the bastions, two 7½ cm. field-pieces and a Coehoorn mortar were mounted.
In the night of 4 April to 5 April 1896 one of these bastions was stormed by the enemy, and, Hooijer wrote, had the gun there not been loaded with case-shot the attack might have proved fatal.
