889 marks the year in which the celebrated Arabic poet Thābit ibn Kūtaibā (also rendered as Thn Kutaiba) died in Baghdad. His works on the theory of the qasīda were later cited by later scholars, and his definitions of the nasīb and raḥīl informed the classical structure that would be transmitted to Acehnese kasida traditions.
