Teluk Klumpang (Dutch: Telok Kloempang) is a bay on the west coast of Aceh north of Rigas at which part of the Dutch punitive column under Lieutenant-Colonel Van Teyn was landed on 20 June 1886 during the Hoc Canton affair, in an effort to cut off Toekoe Oemar’s landward retreat after the plundering of the steamship Hoc Canton. Heavy surf made the landing dangerous; a sloop carrying Lieutenant Matthes and six men capsized (all were rescued), and the captain of the Devonhurst was swept overboard and drowned.
