Salahadji is a river — the Salahadjirrivier — and a small place (het plaatsje Salahadji) on the south-eastern approach to Atjeh from the Aroe-baai (Aru bay). Moens, who in November 1913 entered Atjeh from Pangkalan Brandan by steam launch, recorded the route: into the Aroe-baai again, past Pangkalan Soesoeh, the village of the petroleum tanks, and up the Salahadji river to the little place Salahadji itself; verder hadden wij het ook zeker met dit transport minder getroffen — the transport might have been worse. From there a hardened art-road, a few days’ march from the Acehnese frontier, ran to Kwalla Simpang on the Tamiang river, the first station of a government official on Acehnese soil, which was reached by carriage in a good hour.
