Karang‑Assana was a Balinese principality that featured prominently in the Dutch expeditions of the 1840s. After the Dutch landing at Boeleleng on 28 June 1846, negotiations were held with the princes of Karang‑Assana, though they yielded no lasting agreement (page 106). The area later fell under Dutch control following the third Bali expedition of 1849, after which new treaties were signed on 15 June 1849 (page 108).
Role in Dutch‑Balinese Relations
Karang‑Assana’s resistance contributed to the Dutch decision to launch a second expedition in 1848 and a third in 1849 (page 106). The settlement’s strategic location near the interior routes made it a target for Dutch military advances.
