Kandang Poth Djemaloon was a highly fortified royal Acehnese cemetery located approximately 100 meters west-southwest of the Atjeh’s Groote Missigit.
Structure and Role in Conflict
Enclosed by a massive double stone wall, it was the largest and highest of the burial grounds in the area. Because of its sturdy construction, it was utilized as a tactical stronghold during the First Conquest of the Great Missigit on 10 April 1873. Dutch troops from the 9e Bataljon Infanterie took up covered positions near this cemetery to prevent Acehnese flanking maneuvers during the assault.
