In the Hikayat Gumba Meuih: ‘Gumbo’ Meuih (Goldenhead) is the daughter of king Hamsoykasa, who rules in the country of Gulitan Sagob (in Sumatra, according to the Achehnese).’ This fictional country is the setting for the entire romance. Atrah (= territory of Shah Kubat, in Hikayat Gumba Meuih) In the Hikayat Gumba Meuih: Mira’ Diwangga (Goldenhead’s son) marries a princess from the kingdom of Atrah (the territory of Shah Kubat) named Cheureupu Intan (Diamond Sandal). Irandamin (= Iran Zemin, in Hikayat Cham Nadiman) In the Hikayat Cham Nadiman: ‘Prince Cham Nadiman, son of Meunua Jho (from the Malay benua Johor, the country of Johor), king of Irandamin (i.e. Iran zemin).’ This is a fictional kingdom whose name is drawn from the Persian ‘Iran zemin’ (land of Iran). The story ends: ‘finally they all go away to Irandamin, the country of the hero’s birth.‘
