Van Zuylen van Nyevelt (printed in the pamphlet as “Van Zullen van Nhevelt”) was a member of the States General who, in the secret sitting of the Tweede Kamer of 17 April 1874 on the origin of the Atjeh war, took the floor against the accusation of the Minister of Colonies Fransen van de Putte that some members of the people’s representation “meer Atjehsch waren dan de Atjehers zelven” (“were more Atjehnese than the Atjehers themselves”) and “that they had more love for Atjeh than for the Netherlands” (see C. van Nispen van Sevenaar and Stieltjes, cited from the same debate’s official report, p. 25).
