Thomas Matulesia was an Ambonese rebel leader who commanded local insurgents during the Dutch suppression of the Molukan uprising in the spring of 1818. He was captured on 13 November 1818 after a brief resistance against Dutch landing forces that included marines from the Dutch Marine Corps (page 93).
Role in the Molukan Uprising
Matulesia’s forces fought fiercely against the mixed Dutch‑Indische troops, but the superior firepower of the Dutch navy eventually forced his surrender.
