Teungku Hasbullah Indrapura was an Atjèhnese Ulama who, together with Teungku Hadji Hasan of Krueng Kalé, led an internal opposition within the Poesa against the uncontrolled appropriation, by triumphant Ulama, of property confiscated from the defeated oelèëbalang class during the social revolution of 1945–1946. Henri J. H. Alers’s Om een rode of groene Merdeka records the two men’s objection that such seizures were unlawful acts of plunder — “haram” by the standards of Islamic law — and credits their advocacy, alongside Teungku Hadji Hasan’s, with the central government’s decision to establish the Madjelis Penimbang, the body intended to review and redistribute the disputed properties.
