A panglima who had drilled his army of >400 men well; even had a sort of uniform and a deserter from Dutch lines served as bugler. Had the airs of highway pirates. Tram and telephone connections suffered, but their own gampongs also suffered. He remained invisible while his followers defied death. Rumours of horrible mistreatment of faithful prisoners by the kafir suited to temper fear of death. Killed in 1906 in a masterly raid under sergeant Götz.
Significance
Teungkoe di Tjot Tjitjém appears in Jongejan’s account as one of the figures shaping the history of Aceh during the period covered by the book.
