Teuku Pakeh was the ruling prince (Raja) of Pidie (Pedir) who mobilized over 1,000 warriors to reinforce the Kraton of Aceh during the Second Aceh Expedition in 1873–1874.
Military Role and Naval Retaliation
Teuku Pakeh led coastal contingents from Pidie to defend the capital against General Jan van Swieten. Following the murder of Dutch envoy Mas Soemo Widikdjo inside the Kraton, Van Swieten blamed Teuku Pakeh and ordered a naval squadron to bombard his capital at Pedir on 28 December 1873. Hearing of the destruction, Teuku Pakeh withdrew his forces from the Kraton on 10 January 1874 to protect his home district.
In June 1876, Teuku Pakeh formally submitted to Dutch authority. Recognizing that the 1873 bombardment had hit innocent civilians, the colonial government paid him 50,000 guilders in financial compensation.
