Teuku Kadli was the hereditary supreme religious judge (Qadi) of the Sultanate of Aceh and one of the four principal state ministers (Mantri Hari-Hari).
Role in the Aceh War
Teuku Kadli exercised administrative authority over the eastern bank of the Aceh River and was the father-in-law of Sultan Alauddin Mahmud Syah IX. Initially disposed toward peace, his grand residence at Peunayong was accidentally burned down during the Capture of Peunayong on 18 December 1873, destroying the historic state archives of the Sultanate of Aceh.
Disillusioned by the destruction of his ancestral home and documents, Teuku Kadli joined the active resistance party under Tuanku Hashim. However, following subsequent campaigns at Ketapan Doewa, he formally submitted to Dutch authorities in February 1874.
