Serres, P. L. C. was a lieutenant of the Dutch Marine Corps serving aboard the frigate Van der Werff during the 1821 expedition against Palembang. He was killed in action when the ship came under enemy fire while supporting a marine assault on fortified positions (page 94).

Serres’ death exemplifies the high cost paid by Dutch marines in the difficult riverine campaigns aimed at subduing resistance in the Aceh‑influenced region of South Sumatra.
