Mahmoed Badar Oedien was the brother of the Sultan of Palembang who, after being installed by the Dutch in 1819, launched a surprise attack on the Dutch fort in June 1819. His assault was repelled, prompting a Dutch punitive expedition under Schout-bij-nacht Wolterbeek (page 93).
