Luitenant Wisscher was a Dutch marine lieutenant who participated in the 1784 landing at Salangore. He is noted as the first officer to disembark from a launch during the assault on 18 June 1784.
Actions During the Landing
According to the Journaal van Van Braam, Wisscher leapt from the launch ahead of the main force, followed by two grenadiers, and helped secure the initial beachhead despite intense enemy fire. He later received a commendation for his bravery, being described as “een veelbelovend officier” (a promising officer) by Van Braam.
Later Career and Death
Wisscher continued to serve in the Dutch East Indies until he succumbed to a severe illness that struck the fleet in Malakka in 1784, dying shortly before the squadron’s departure for the Netherlands.
