Lieutenant Van Pelt was a Dutch marine officer who was killed in action during the 1824 expedition against the Padri forces on Celebes. His death was mourned by his comrade Lieutenant P. Troost, who recorded the loss in his memoirs.
Death
Van Pelt fell during a fierce engagement when the enemy opened fire after the Dutch troops had approached the breastwork.
