Lieutenant Le Mahieu served as an adjutant of the marine battalion during the third Bali expedition of 1849 (page 108). He was noted for his organisational talent and for being among the first to respond to alarms during night attacks (page 108). He fell ill from exhaustion on 24 May 1849 and died on 22 June 1849 (page 108).
Role in the Expedition
Le Mahieu coordinated the preparation of the landing craft and oversaw the deployment of the marine battalion during the assaults on Djagaraga and Kasoemba (page 108).
Posthumous Recognition
Although a recommendation for his promotion to the Militaire Willemsorde was made, it was not acted upon because he had died before the royal decree of 11 December 1849 (page 108).
