Lieutenant H. Quispel was a second‑class marine lieutenant who served in the Marine Landings Division during the Dutch expeditions against Acehnese fortified settlements in 1868‑1869. He is listed among the four second‑class lieutenants (H. Quispel, F. W. Hudig, F. Zegers Veeckens, H. I. Cadet) who commanded landing parties.
Aceh Operations
Quispel participated in the assault on Bandjar on 24 October 1868, where his unit provided infantry support and helped breach the stone walls of the kampong.
Significance
His service exemplifies the junior officer cadre that enabled the Dutch marine corps to conduct coordinated amphibious assaults in Aceh’s difficult terrain.
