Batteké, Lieutenant was a Dutch marine officer who remained with a detachment of thirty marines on Poeloe Bras after the majority of the force returned to Fort de Kock in July 1874. His small garrison continued to hold the island while other marine companies were reassigned.

Batteké’s command exemplified the Dutch practice of maintaining a minimal occupational presence on strategic islands after the main expedition had moved on.
