J. van Leeuwen was a marine of 1st class who received the Eervolle Vermelding by Royal Decree 8 February 1859 No. 64 for his actions during the First Boni Expedition 1859.
Service
His commendation reflects the Dutch effort to suppress resistance on Boni.
