J.G. Blanken was a Lieutenant in the Dutch forces who exhibited immense bravery during the Second Conquest of the Great Missigit on 14 April 1873.
Act of Heroism
Alongside Captain J.H. Huijer, Blanken risked his life by jumping over the walls into the courtyard of Atjeh’s Groote Missigit while under intense enemy fire. Their mission was to retrieve the body of a fallen Amboinese soldier, preventing it from being mutilated by the enemy. He passed away on 4 September 1882 in The Hague.
