Ibn Sina, known in the West as Avicenna, was an 11th‑century Persian polymath whose kasida al‑sainiyya appears in the Jakarta manuscript collection (Van Ronkel, no ?; later translated by Henri Massé in Revue du Caire 1914). The poem’s inclusion illustrates the breadth of Arabic literary works circulating in Aceh and the wider Indonesian world.
Translation History
Henri Massé’s French translation (1914) introduced the al‑sainiyya to European scholarship, while the original Arabic manuscript remained in the Indonesian archives.
