H. Thijssen was a corporal of the marines who participated in the 1858 assault. He was among the 32 marines nominated for the Militaire Willemsorde after the campaign, though the nomination was not acted upon.
Recognition
Thijssen’s bravery was noted in the official report of the expedition, but no award was ultimately granted.
