F. W. Beeckman was a Dutch captain of infantry in Atjeh in 1876, commanding the 4th company of the right half of the 3rd Infantry Battalion. At the storming of Lambaroe on 7 March 1876, his company formed the advance guard of Major Diepenheim’s column and led the assault on the north face of the enemy fortification.

When Diepenheim’s column — having pushed into the kampong under fire — arrived with its advance guard before the north face of the enemy work, Beeckman’s men were ordered by the major to cut two openings in the bamboo-thorn abatis before that face, whereupon First Lieutenant Godin with the 2nd and First Lieutenant Smit with the 1st platoon would storm through. In the onset that followed — the company storming two faces while Major Van Teijn’s men attacked from east and south — Lieutenant Godin was first on the breastwork, sabre and revolver in hand, and fusilier Klin of Smit’s platoon was the first of his on the enemy parapet. Meijer recorded, naming them with their pay-list numbers, that the Ambonese fusilier Pattiasina sprang directly behind Godin, and that the European fusilier Manchiska and the Ambonese fusiliers Rarumangkaij and Rindingan were the first after them inside the work, in the short and bloody fight in its little interior, in which Rarumangkaij and Rindingan were wounded.
