D’Engelbronner was a Dutch controleur (controller), a civil colonial official in Atjeh in 1876, attached with guides to Major Voigt’s column of 1–3 June 1876 into the IV Moekims against the band of Toekoe Tjihiq Lamngga.

D’Engelbronner went with the column as its civil officer. At Boekit Seboen he reported in the evening that he expected an Atjehnese head with guides at ten; the head was fetched from his house by a patrol towards midnight, carrying the news that Toekoe Tjihiq had moved to Naga Oembang with 200 men. When the disappointed column came at the last refuge of the band and Major Voigt proposed to burn the two abandoned houses as enemy hiding places, it was at D’Engelbronner’s request that the major desisted — an act of forbearance towards the ostensibly friendly population that H. F. Meijer recorded without comment in Atjeh van 26 December 1875 tot 4 September 1876 (1883).
