Corporal F. H. Bouvy was a Dutch marine who was recognized for his “excellent conduct” during the 1824 campaign and subsequently granted permission to study at the Instituut der Marine in Medemblik with the aim of becoming an officer.
Education
His award and subsequent study illustrate the Dutch practice of promoting capable marines through formal naval education.
