Captain ter zee Bouricius commanded the marine landing division during the third Bali expedition of 1849 (page 107). His division, comprising roughly 600 men equally split between marines and sailors, was organized into four companies and played a key role in the assaults on Djagaraga and later on Kasoemba (page 107).
Marine Operations
Bouricius’s forces secured the beachhead at Boeleleng and later participated in the inland advance toward the fortified positions. After the death of General‑Major Michiels, Bouricius continued to lead his troops during the subsequent actions at Soenla Lawas (page 108).
Recognition
He was among the officers awarded the Militaire Willemsorde by the royal decree of 11 December 1849 (page 108).
