Captain J. A. Ernst (Van Sievert) was an officer of the Korps Mariniers who distinguished himself during the third Bali expedition of 1849 (page 108). He received a knighthood in the Militaire Willemsorde by the royal decree of 11 December 1849 (page 108).
Service in the Bali Campaign
Ernst participated in the assaults on Djagaraga and the subsequent operations at Kasoemba and Soenla Lawas. His leadership contributed to the successful capture of key fortified positions.
Honors
The royal decree (see Koninklijk Besluit (1849) No. 44) listed him among the officers awarded the Militaire Willemsorde 4th class (page 108).
