Broers was a Lieutenant ter zee 2e klasse who assumed command of the Dutch landing division after Mennert (naval officer) was wounded during the 30 March 1893 operation on the Tamiang river.
Command
Broers directed the continuation of the assault on enemy fortifications and coordinated with the infantry under Colonel Van de Pol.
