Bootsman Coppel was a Dutch bootsman who entered the fort of Retch alongside L. F. Tuckerman after the rattan barrier had been breached during the 1858 assault.
Role in the Battle
Coppel’s participation contributed to the close‑quarters fighting that secured the Dutch victory.
