System in which a landschap (region) is governed by a native zelfbestuurder (self-administrator) under Dutch suzerainty. Example: Teukoe Hadji Tjhi’ Mohamad Djohan Alamsjah of Peusangan. Zelfbestuurders were ‘ingesteld’ (engaged) in recent ordonnance on cattle control.
Significance
Zelfbestuur (self-administration) is recorded by Jongejan as part of the institutional landscape of Aceh.
