cooperative rice mill (defunct)
Description
A few years before writing, a rice mill on cooperative basis existed at Sigli. Cooperators were landschapshoofden (regional chiefs) of the afdeeling. Given the relations between those chiefs with their many nuances, observers wondered how long the business would last. The rice mill still exists; the cooperative has folded.
Significance
Sigli coöperatieve rijstpellerij is recorded by Jongejan as part of the institutional landscape of Aceh.
