Marechaussee Corps of Aceh (Korps Marechaussee) was a specialized, light-infantry counter-guerrilla police force created by the Dutch colonial administration in 1890 to combat Acehnese resistance fighters within and beyond the Concentrated Line.
Formation and Tactics
Initially established with 12 mobile brigades (240 men) composed primarily of indigenous Ambonese, Javanese, and European officers, the corps expanded to 60 brigades (1,200 men). Operating without heavy equipment and adopting Acehnese traditional weapons (klewang) and jungle guerrilla tactics, the Marechaussee became the primary counter-insurgency unit in Aceh.
