The Atjeh Handelsmaatschappij — the Atjeh Trading Company — was a Dutch trading-company active in the Gouvernement Atjeh en Onderhoorigheden in the post-pacification period, with offices at Langsa, Lho’ Seumawé and Kota Radja. At Langsa it is one of the trading-houses that remained after the Factorij, the Deli-Atjeh-Mij. and the firm Kehding had closed their offices. The Atjeh Handelsmaatschappij is one of the principal Dutch intermediaries in the trade between the Atjehnese oeléebalangs and the European import-market; in Broersma’s chapter on trade and labour he describes it as a body that has much to do with the Atjehnese traders in cottons (katoentjes) and manufactures, who buy on three- and four-months’ credit and sometimes get an extension.
