Amboineesche Barisans were indigenous troops from Ambon serving within the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL) during the Aceh War.

Role in the Conflict

These troops were highly valued for their combat effectiveness and loyalty. They fought alongside European forces in the fierce close-quarters engagements at Atjeh’s Groote Missigit. During the Second Conquest of the Great Missigit, the tragic death of an Amboinese fuselier prompted Lieutenant J.G. Blanken and Captain J.H. Huijer to vault the enemy walls to recover his body.
